Herbert's Summit Serenade, While Others Scramble for Leftovers

Lucas Herbert’s suddenly standing atop The Open like he just found the last donut in the break room. Six-under-par. It’s a spot that makes you sweat just looking at it, and you know Jackson Suber and Bud Cauley are practically hyperventilating a single shot back. I can practically hear them whispering sweet nothings to their caddies about how Herbert’s luck is about to run out.

Then you’ve got the pack, including the always-serious Collin Morikawa, just two strokes off. These guys are the sensible ones, the ones who understand golf doesn’t hand you victory like a free sample. They’ve got to chip away at that lead, which, let’s be honest, is about as fun as a root canal with a rusty drill.

And where are the big hitters? Sepp Straka and Bryson DeChambeau are sort of… hovering? Three shots back. Is this a master plan, a deep thinking session about sand traps, or did they just get a really bad case of the yips? We’ll find out soon enough if they’re about to roar back or just fade into the background noise. Oh, and the wind. The wind’s still doing its best impression of a heckler, ready to mock anyone who dares to dream.
